The costs of driving or,having a vehicle
In
our life, except for a home, an automobile is the largest
single investment. Most of the People will never make
it, very often. This is the biggest drain on the household
budget, because while most of the lands & homes
increases in value over the year, on the other hand
most of the motor vehicle's depreciate in value year
after year. So owning a motor vehicle is essential for
getting to work, shopping & family uses mostly,
then how could you calculate this major cost of daily
living and what is the best way to keep your driving
costs as lower as possible.
How to save fuel/gas, while you are driving
a vehicle
To save Fuel/gas : You are the best fuel/gas- saving device, so the best way
to save fuel/gas is to drive the vehicle smoothly and try to avoid fast starts or,
sudden stop ,then try to avoid unnecessary stops, because it takes 20% more
fuel/gas to accelerate the vehicle to cruising speed from a full stop.
On the highway while your are driving try to maintain a steady speed, stay off the
Brakes, except for the emergencies. If you are going too fast release the gas paddle
slightly and coast down to lower speed without braking, keep your vehicle’s windows
closed while you are driving in high speeds and use the dash vents for fresh air (This
system are applicable when you are driving the vehicle without air-conditioner)
Whenever you stops, more than a few minutes whether at a store or hotel in the high-
way, if you are stuck a Traffic jam, because an idle speed engine can not run without
fuel and don’t let the engine warm-up. So keep your engine in tune a well tuned engine,
because it will not only use less fuel/gas, its also gives you start the vehicle at the first
flick of the key.
How to Re- filling your Fuel/gas tank :-
Remember never fill the gas/fuel tank of your vehicle, full to the brim, because
gas/fuel is likely to spill out when the tank is being filled, if you later park the vehicle
facing uphill, or if the sun expands the gas/fuel that was pumped up from a cold under
storage fuel/gas tank of the vehicle.
Tire’s can save fuel/gas :
Always try to use recommended tire size & pressure as manufacturer are given in
The vehicle’s owners manual book or, instructions given in your vehicle, check
the tire Pressure while You are going to drive the vehicle, because recommended
tire pressure level will save fuel and improved handling & smooth driving as long
as you do not exceed the maximum tire pressure listed on the tire side wall.
Save fuel/gas in Auto Transmission driven vehicle:-
Driving an Auto Transmission vehicle to save the gas/fuel, always try to accelerate the engine smoothly on “D” mode and keep the Transmission in ECT (Electronic Control Transmission) mode ,it take less fuel/gas to accelerate the vehicle, and keeps on the “OD” button while you are driving. It’s ultimately effects when your vehicle’s speeds goes up above 65 kph. Because most of the driver of the Auto Transmission driven vehicle they forgotten to use the “OD” button. So always keeps on the “OD”(Over drive) it means 5th speed as manual Transmission. For manual Transmission always keep highest gear possible without straining the engine, never coast down hill in Neutral gear to save fuel/gas, because you may reach dangerous speed or, overheat the brakes to control the vehicle, or to keep your speed in check.
Road Emergencies :
No matter how well you maintain your vehicle, it is not assures you to a sudden mechanical failure or, no matter how carefully you drive, you are not assure that to faced an accident. So the best you can do is to be prepared to handle any road emergency that might arise. So handling road emergencies properly will help you to prevent further damage to your vehicle.
Flate tire or, blowout
If a tire is going flat, you may have difficulty to steering the vehicle and your riding
the vehicle may feels sluggish or, bumpy, or the vehicle may handle irately in turns
or tilt down towards the flat tire. A blowout happens suddenly. In that case grip the
steering wheel firmly and gently apply pressure to the brakes remember don’t push
the brakes strongly, after that pull of the vehicle off the road to change the tire.
If necessary drive slowly until you reach a spot where you can safely pull off the vehicle.
Out of Fuel/Gas :
If the engine of your vehicle begins to miss or, sputter you may be running out of
Gas/fuel so you check the fuel gauge, if it reads empty put the transmission into
neutral. Then go for re-filling the fuel tank.
Overheating :
The signs of overheating are in that case steams coming out from under the
hood of a vehicle or, temperature gauge shown or, overheating warning light coming on the Meter display behind the steering wheel. Then pull off the vehicle beside the road and Let down the engine cool down and try to find out the cause of the problem.
There are two basic causes of overheating : A mechanical fault that interferes with the Operation of the cooling system. Sometimes an engine overheats simply because more heat builds up than the cooling system can dispose. This usually happens during stop and go driving in hot weather especially, if the vehicle air-conditioner is on.
What to do to prevent overheating :
Shift the gear in Neutral position and rev. the engine at two to three times then
let the engine in idle speed, so that the engine fan can well and pull grate
amount of air through the radiator and the water pump will increase coolant
circulation. Always try to keep your vehicle at least 8-10 feet behind the vehicle
ahead, so that its hot exhaust does not flow into your radiator, Turn off the air-
conditioner, its pumps extra heat into the engine compartment.
There are 10 possible causes of overheating an engine to check :
(1) Coolant level are too low.
(2) Loss of coolant.
(3) Poor water circulation by the Water pump or, its blades are broken.
(4) Leaking cylinder head gasket
(5) Loose or, broken fan belt Fan.
(6) Thermostat is defective or, out of order.
(7) Defective or, wrong type radiator cap.
(8) Faulty electric fan switch or fan motor.
(9) Late Ignition timing or, engine timing are retired position.
(10) Engine Idle speeds are too low.
For Air cooled engine :
If you have an air-cooled engine, the signs of overheating are a loss of power and a hot engine smell. So pull off the road of your vehicle and let engine cool down, then inspect the engine for some mechanical fault, such as a broken fan belt or, air damper flaps are stuck up to cooling the engine.
Oil pressure light comes on :
While the oil pressure light comes on momentarily when you start the engine. If it stay on or, comes on while you are driving the vehicle it could mean that, the oil Pump has failed or, that there is not enough oil in the engine. So immediately stop the engine and turn off the vehicle off the road and check the oil level, and added oil if necessary. If the oil levels are satisfactory, it suspect a bad oil pump, remember a bad oil pump is very harmful to your engine.
Alternator warning light comes on :
This light signals a malfunction in the electrical charging system. Usually in the alternator or the belt driving it so while Alternator light comes on, do not stop the engine because you may not be able to get it started again, Instead turn off all unnecessary electrical- equipments and drive to a nearest workshop to repair or, replace the alternator. You should be able to drive a few miles on the electrical reserve in the battery.
Brake failure :
If you feel the brakes are not working try the following three process through to
Re - builds the brake or, rapid succession, pump the brake paddle sometimes this will build up pressure in the system and make the brakes work temporarily. If that does not work, use the parking brake to slow the vehicle. If the parking brake does not work put the vehicle into a lower gear and in the clutch. As engine drag slow the vehicle.
You can do the same thing on a vehicle with Automatic Transmission shifting carefully from “D” to L2 and L1. If the parking brake will not bring a slowly moving the vehicle to a halt , shift momentarily into “R” not into “P” which
will damage the transmission box of the vehicle.
